Halloween is my favorite holiday, and I absolutely could not allow it to go by without a party. Hannah and I asked our house mother, Nava, if we could throw a party in the Moadon (Ulpan clubhouse/dining room). Not only did she say yes, she also got us a huge pumpkin and lots of decorations. We managed to convince most of the ulpanists to dress up and even a couple of kibbutzniks showed up (but they refused to dress up..."only on purim"). I made a jack-lantern, and Hannah made a skeleton and we hung up streamers and lit the entire room with a million tea light candles that Nava gave us. It ended up looking very cool. We put out candy and snacks and everyone brought their own booze. The best part was that Rachel, an amazing belly dancer, gave a performance at the party. After that we went to the kibbutz pub in our costumes, which got lots of stares, but I think they were generally amused by us. I dressed up as a drag queen and learned the hebrew word for it (coxinel).
